Privacy Policy

How HopFocus collects, uses and protects your family's information.

1. Who we are

HopFocus is a New Zealand-based learning platform for tutoring and homeschooling, covering Years 1–8 of the New Zealand Curriculum. This policy explains what information we collect from parents and children who use hopfocus.co.nz and the HopFocus app, and how we look after it. Contact: hello@hopfocus.co.nz.

2. What we collect

  • Account information: a parent's name, email address and password when you sign up.
  • Child profile information: a child's first name, year level, and the subjects, interests and characters they choose to personalise their lessons.
  • Learning activity: lessons completed, answers given, progress and mastery data, so we can adapt lessons to your child and show you their progress.
  • Payment information: handled directly by our payment processor, Stripe. HopFocus does not see or store your card details.
  • Usage and device information: standard technical data (browser type, pages visited) collected automatically to keep the site working properly.
  • Advertising identifiers: if you arrive from a Google or Meta ad, we record which ad brought you here (for example a gclid or fbclid parameter) so we can tell which ads are working. See “Cookies and advertising” below.

3. How we use it

  • To provide and personalise the learning programme for your child.
  • To let parents track progress, plan learning, and generate printable worksheets and reports.
  • To process payments and manage your subscription (via Stripe).
  • To send account-related emails (welcome, trial reminders, weekly progress emails).
  • To understand which marketing and advertising is working, so we can spend your data responsibly and not waste money on ads that don't help real families find us.
  • We do not sell your data, or your child's data, to third parties.

4. Children's information

HopFocus is used by children under parental supervision. A child's profile is created and managed by their parent or caregiver, who can review, update or delete it at any time from the parent dashboard, or by emailing hello@hopfocus.co.nz. We collect only what's needed to run the learning programme (first name, year level, learning activity) — we do not require or collect a child's full name, address, or other identifying details beyond what a parent chooses to enter.

5. Where your information is stored

Your account and learning data is stored securely with Supabase, our database provider. Payment information is stored and processed by Stripe. Both providers maintain their own security and privacy standards.

6. Cookies and advertising

We use standard analytics to understand how the site is used, and we run Google Ads. If you click through from an ad, we may record that so we know the ad worked — this does not identify your child. You can control cookies and ad personalisation through your browser and through Google's own Ad Settings.

7. Your rights

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you can ask to see what information we hold about you or your child, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and associated data. Email hello@hopfocus.co.nz and we'll respond within a reasonable time.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as HopFocus grows. We'll update the “last updated” date above when we do.
